Much of the top talent in the 2026 recruiting class has already found a home, but one of the most sought-after names that remained was offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell out of Nixa, Missouri.
One of the best remaining unsigned cornerbacks, former Fort Lauderdale Thomas Aquinas star Asante Samuel Jr., underwent neck surgery in April, ESPN reported this week. Samuel, who visited the Saints on Monday, has a check-up scheduled in early July, after which he will meet with several teams. ESPN said he will be available to play this season.
The Miami football team picked up a massive commitment on Tuesday as the top player in the 2026 recruiting class announced that he will play for the Hurricanes. Offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell was between Miami, Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon. He decided that he wants to play for Mario Cristobal and Miami.
Cantwell (6-foot-7.5, 300 pounds) ranks as the nation's No. 1 player by both On3 and Rivals. He plays for Nixa (Missouri) High School, where he earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors in December.
Notre Dame is at Miami (Florida) in Week 1 of the 2025 college football season, and the tilt between the Fighting Irish and the Hurricanes will be an ABC broadcast. The Saturday, Aug. 31 game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern and is part of a slew of Week 0 and Week 1 games that will be shown on ESPN or ABC.
