A massive search was stretching into its second day for a man who authorities say posed as a police officer and fatally shot a Democratic state lawmaker in her suburban Minneapolis home, an act Gov. Tim Walz called “a politically motivated assassination.

For the second straight day, law enforcement officials are searching for 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter in the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses.

A Minnesota state representative and her husband were killed early Saturday, and a state senator and his wife were injured.

A law enforcement alert said the threat was toward Texas legislators planning to attend a protest against Donald Trump. The Texas Capitol has been evacuated.

The suspect, identified by authorities as Vance Luther Boelter, posed as a law enforcement officer to gain access to the victims' homes.
