A suspect in a bank robbery was shot by officers in Covington as police tried to take him into custody on Friday afternoon.It happened at approximately 3:05 p.m. in the 600 block of Madison Avenue, near Hotel Covington.

At approximately 3 p.m., Covington police officers responded to the U.S. Bank on the 600 block of Madison Avenue for reports of a robbery where a gun was displayed, according to a release from the Covington Police Department. Officers encountered a man who matched the suspect's description less than a block from the bank.

Police said there was an officer-involved shooting in the 600 block of Madison Avenue, a popular area that includes Hotel Covington, multiple restaurants and shops.

Kentucky State Police say Charles Davis of Covington was armed when he robbed a U.S. Bank Friday, leading officers to find and shoot him as they attempted to detain him. It happened around 3 p.m. Friday on Madison Avenue, a busy area in the heart of Covington. Police say Davis now has non-life-threatening injuries and is stable.
