A tsunami warning has been issued for Hawaii, where waves set off by an 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Russia’s remote Far East are expected to arrive after 7 p.m. local time.

As the tsunami threat subsides across the Pacific, this is where warnings and evacuation orders have been officially lifted.

David Sun-Miyashiro was at home on the 31st floor of a Honolulu apartment building, high above danger, when his phone alerted him to a possible tsunami from a massivex earthquake far across the Pacific Ocean.
