Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday is expected to announce a lawsuit arguing that President Trump lacks the authority to enact the international tariffs without the support of Congress.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has said his state will file a lawsuit on Wednesday challenging President Donald Trump's authority to impose sweeping global tariffs, warning they have caused "immediate and irreparable harm.

The suit will argue that Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China or a 10% tariff on all imports is unlawful. The act enables a president to freeze and block transactions in response to foreign threats.
