A wildlife photographer stumbled upon the discovery of a lifetime near the site of where a Winter Olympic event will be held in just a few weeks.

So far, the historically European sport known as “skimo” that sends skiers up steep slopes under their own power has only been approved by the International Olympic Committee as the sole new sport for Italy’s Games that begin next February.

Around 20,000 dinosaur tracks were found in Stelvio National Park in the central Alps of northern Italy by nature photographer Elio Della Ferrera on Sept. 14. The footprints were found near locations for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Registration for the LA28 Olympics ticket draw opens in January, marking the first time that fans of the games can begin the process to attend the international event in 2028.
