President Trump yesterday revoked a Biden administration Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on restoring fish population the Columbia Snake River system that, among other things, would have led to the breaching of the four lower Snake River dams.

Trump has withdrawn the U.S. government from an agreement to restore native fish being decimated by hydroelectric dams in the Columbia River Basin.

In a memorandum, Trump reneged on more than a billion dollars the Biden administration promised to tribes for renewable energy and salmon recovery. He also halted a government-wide initiative to restore abundant salmon runs in the Columbia and Snake rivers and signaled an end to the government’s willingness to consider dam removal.

President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered heads of the Army Corps of Engineers and the Energy, Interior and Commerce departments to pull out of Biden-era agreements intended to halt litigation over salmon declines in the Columbia and Snake River system.

The initiative to study breaching of the four Lower Snake River dams was implemented with a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2023 by the Biden administration, the states of Oregon and Washington, four of the largest Native American tribes in the Columbia Basin and conservation organizations.
