The San Francisco 49ers are adding another name to their loaded running back room. Although nobody will surpass Christian McCaffrey on the depth chart, former Las Vegas Raiders starter Ameer Abdullah will now join the group to compete for a roster spot over the next month.

The 49ers are limiting Christian McCaffrey's training camp reps to keep the running back healthy for the season opener and beyond.

The 49ers are adding one of the veteran running backs they worked out this week. Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, San Francisco is signing Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah, 32, spent the last three seasons with the Raiders.
