A series of weather systems have contributed to heavy rain and dangerous surf across parts of the Southeast, especially in Florida, but the well-timed systems also are part of a weather pattern that's forecast to help spare the mainland U.S. from any direct impacts from powerful Hurricane Melissa.

With a combination of easterly flow provided by major Hurricane Melissa to the south of Florida and an approaching storm system over the Southeast United States, Central Florida has seen a parade of showers and storms rolling across the state this afternoon.

Get ready for a cold front to move into Florida this weekend. Some areas could see low temps drop into the upper 50s.

A flood watch has been issued for Orlando and most of Central Florida on Monday as more rain is expected throughout the day.
