Richard Sterban of The Oak Ridge Boys may be well-known for his deep bass "Mmm papa mow mow" that stood out on their hit "Elvira," but it wasn't always that deep.

The group launched as the gospel/country-focused Oak Ridge Quartet. By the late ‘60s, the lineup included Allen and Golden, with Bonsall and Sterban joining in the early ‘70s.
