People heading to and from Sea-Tac Airport may want to check their flight status as dozens of cancellations and delays tick up amid increased disruptions caused by the federal government shutdown.
SEATAC, Wash. — Seattle-Tacoma International Airport reported “no major impacts” Tuesday as the federal government shutdown approached record length, even as national officials warned of potential “mass chaos” in the skies if the standoff continues.
More than 1,800 flights have been cancelled across the U.S. on Saturday, and thousands more delayed, as 40 major airports continue reducing flight capacity.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it would cut traffic across 40 “high-volume” markets to provide relief to air traffic controllers, who have been working without pay because of the government shutdown.

Pressure on air traffic controllers during the government shutdown is prompting officials to cut flights at 40 major airports across the nation.
The FAA said weather — including strong winds, steady rain and potential pop-up showers — is affecting the region’s ability to safely handle incoming flights.
“BLI is currently impacted by the Federal Government’s order to reduce commercial flights by 10%,” according to a Facebook post from the airport. “If you’re planning to travel, please check with your airline for the latest updates and any changes to your flight schedule.”
International flights will remain unaffected by the government shutdown due to binding agreements, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.
