Called a "Type 1 connector" and developed by IBM, it is a combination plug and socket. Flip any connector 180 degrees with the other and they plug together. THIS DEFINITION IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY.
Early implementations used the IBM Type 1 cabling system, which used a large square connector at the end of the cable. Later iterations were able to go with the RJ-45 connector also used for Ethernet.
