Nepal's government said Thursday it is blocking most social media platforms including Facebook, X and YouTube because the companies failed to comply with regulations that required them to register with the government.

Nepal said that it would ask its telecommunications agency to block access to several social media platforms including Facebook, Youtube, X and LinkedIn, after a deadline for them to register with authorities had passed the previous day.

Nepal has ordered internet service providers to block 26 leading social media and communication platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn and Reddit.
