At $439, the DJI Flip could be a good starting point for people who don’t typically buy drones. You can unfold it, launch it from your hand with a single button, land it on your hand again, or optionally use joysticks, all while capturing higher-quality photos and video than the immediate competition.

Like the Neo, the $440 DJI Flip can launch from your palm, but it includes better object avoidance tech and a bigger sensor.

The DJI Flip marks the first in a new series of “all-in-one” drones from the Chinese aerial photography and videography experts. Weighing less than 249g (8.7oz), the compact drone has been designed for maximum portability and measures in at just 136×62×165 mm when folded – it’s small enough to be almost pocketable.

There’s one missing part. The DJI Flip can’t be used as an FPV (first person view) drone, with one of DJI’s nifty first-person view headsets, and it doesn’t support DJI’s motion controller either.

DJI abandons the geofencing of its drones in the USA, which prevents their operation in restricted areas. Geofencing will be abolished in other EU countries too.

The DJI Flip marks yet another entirely new airframe design from DJI. Sure, there have been size & weight changes, camera improvements, and extra features but – until the recent DJI Neo – the consumer category hasn't seen much other than incremental changes since the folding revolution – and that came in 2016 with the Mavic Pro.

DJI just presented the Flip drone as a new, compact, and foldable product ideal for portability and aerial selfies. The DJI Flip features a 1/1.3-inch image sensor for high-quality video recording and innovative propeller protection.
