Mason Miller made his debut with the San Diego Padres on Friday night, the day after being involved in arguably the biggest trade of the entire deadline. Miller isn't the closer for his new team, however, as was reported on Thursday. So on Friday, he came into the game in the top of the eighth with San Diego holding a 4-1 lead.

The San Diego Padres acquired All-Star closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears through a trade with the Athletics, the teams announced Thursday.

Major League Baseball's 2025 trade deadline is on Thursday, July 31st, at 6:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, or 3:00 P.M. Western. Once the deadline passes, no MLB trades can occur, though sometimes a deal will be announced shortly after the deadline passes. But, as long as it's submitted to MLB before the deadline, a deal can pass.
