NOAA weather radios across a large portion of central and southern Minnesota won’t broadcast storm warnings Monday should they be needed as the National Weather Service upgrades its system that delivers alerts.

Expect a warm and humid day on Monday with the chance of scattered strong storms later this afternoon and evening. FOX 9's Cody Matz has the latest.

Severe thunderstorms resulted in at least two confirmed tornados in Minnesota on Monday, with huge hail and torrential rain also causing major problems. The National Weather Service reports that a tornado touched down between Nicollet and North Mankato in the south of the state, and there was another confirmed tornado in the Brainerd Lakes area.

There is a line of dying storms moving through the Twin Cities around midday Monday. It is still too early to say if these storms will limit the metro’s severe potential later in the afternoon.

A multi-day severe weather threat is setting up in the High Plains and Upper Midwest this week with potential large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Meanwhile, more flooding rain is possible in parts of the Appalachians and Ohio Valley plagued by flooding last weekend.

KARE 11's John Zeigler said a warm, humid and unstable atmosphere could trigger severe storms and the risk of hail up to the size of a tennis ball.

Storms could pop Saturday and Sunday evenings before a more widespread threat for damaging storms arrives Monday in Minnesota.
