Welcome back to the SNL in Review, as we continue to recap Saturday Night Live's 50th season. Tonight’s column marks the glorious return of Lady Gaga, who is pulling double duty as host and musical guest.

Yes! After weeks of special anniversary celebrations, the "SNL" gang will roll up their sleeves for a brand new episode live from Studio 8H on March 1. Comedian Shane Gillis returns to host the show for the second time, with singer-songwriter Tate McRae serving as musical guest, also for the second time.

Gaga is hosting for the second time and is the musical guest for the fifth time. Her newest album, “Mayhem,” was released on March 7.

“SNL” showrunner Lorne Michaels has said that firing Gillis was not his choice and he was “angry” with NBC’s decision. All hard feelings were buried when Gillis made his official Studio 8H debut last year, hosting the February 25, 2024 episode.

Saturday Night Live’s 50th season continues with a new episode on Saturday, March 8. Lady Gaga will serve as both host and musical guest during the live show. The performance comes one day after the singer released her new album “Mayhem” on Friday, March 7.

Gillis is a graduate of Trinity High School and West Chester University. Gillis previously hosted in February 2024. He was fired as a cast member in 2019 before he even made his debut after facing backlash for using a racial slur on a 2018 podcast. He has since become the star and co-creator of the series “Tires” on Netflix.
