CVS has agreed to acquire some of Rite Aid's locations and prescription files as the latter shuts down hundreds of stores.

Rite Aid announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again on May 5, the second time since October 2023. Bankruptcy filings have identified 316 store locations Rite Aid has tapped for closure.

In May, Rite Aid filed for its second bankruptcy protection and announced it will be closing or selling the remainder of its 1,200 stores.

The Deerfield, Illinois, company had already shed about a thousand U.S. stores since it grew to nearly 9,500 after buying some Rite Aid locations in 2018.

Rite Aid, Walgreens, Authentic Brands, and WHP declined to comment. Marquee Brands and representatives for Kardashian did not respond to requests for comment.

Pharma giants Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens will have closed a collective 1,000 locations across the U.S. in 2025, and Pennsylvania will feel the strongest hit as 200 Rite Aid stores shutter.
