If the measure of a good Pixar movie is that it makes you cry, then the studio’s new interstellar romp, Elio, is a rousing success. If the goal is to have a coherent, cohesive story, however, the results are a little less conclusive.

Elio is a lonely 11-year-old just looking for big answers about life in Pixar's newest movie, in theaters Friday.

It’s pretty obvious that the original intention was to celebrate the outsider and make a point about finding one’s tribe, but somewhere along the line that all got lost, and we’re left with spectacular film about the vastness of infinity that ends up an Earthbound parable about family ties.
