England veteran batter Joe Root surpassed former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run scorer in Test cricket history, as his partnership with England skipper Ben Stokes helped his side to take a healthy lead over India at the end of second session on day third in the fourth Test against India at Manchester on Friday.
