Chief Pamela Smith has issued an executive order opening up cooperation between D.C. police and federal immigration enforcement agencies.Effective immediately, MPD officers are permitted to share information about people not in MPD custody — like individuals they encounter during traffic stops — with federal agencies like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
