MILWAUKEE — Flash flooding canceled the final day of the Wisconsin State Fair on Sunday as continued heavy rainfall in half a dozen Midwest states forced motorists to abandon their vehicles, cut power to thousands of households and closed busy roadways.

Flash flooding hit several Midwestern states over the weekend, submerging cars in Milwaukee and killing at least one person in eastern Nebraska, officials said.

Milwaukee County was under a state of emergency Sunday as several roads were blocked off and neighbors impacted by flooding tried to salvage what's left after what's being called a historic rainfall.
