President Donald Trump said he is appointing Fox News host and ex-prosecutor Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.

The current Fox News host has not yet been nominated as the capital city’s full-time federal prosecutor, but Senate Republicans seem ready to get behind her candidacy as Ed Martin's replacement.

In March 2019, a then-Fox News host was sitting quietly, scanning the news, when suddenly their phone rang. They were told to “hold for the president” of the United States, Donald Trump.

Live cast member Cecily Strong crashed this week’s cold open, reprising her iconic role as Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro. Strong’s Pirro walked on stage holding just her purse, but soon revealed its content: a bottle of red wine.

Colbert said President Trump’s latest appointment from the Fox News roster “drank a whole bottle of champagne, and then someone told her the news.”

Jeanine Pirro is the first U.S. attorney nominee known to have come under a federal probe after being caught on tape scheming to catch a cheating spouse in the act.
