VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Leo has confirmed all top Vatican officials in their current roles on a temporary basis, giving him time to decide before making definitive appointments, the Vatican said in a statement on Friday.

As the leader of Vatican City, he is the head of a sovereign nation. But maintaining dual citizenship as a foreign head of state can “raise complex questions of international law,” according to the State Department.

Pope Leo XIV has taken the reins as leader of the Catholic Church, starting his first day as Pontiff with a mass at the Sistine Chapel, during which he called his election both a cross and a blessing.
