WPTV heard firsthand from a boat owner in Port St Lucie who helped find a woman who was reported missing earlier this week.
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a family from Naushon Island after their boat caught fire, forcing them to swim to safety from Martha's Vineyard.
Naushon Island is part of a chain of islands between Massachusetts and Martha's Vineyard. It is about seven miles long and is owned by descendants of the Forbes family. Once on the island, they found a barn for shelter. The son found the ship’s marine radio washed ashore and he used it to call for help.
