The State Department revoked the terrorist designation of Hayʼat Tahrir al-Sham, a group headed by the country’s new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

The United States announced on Monday that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a Syrian group formerly linked to al Qaeda, had its designation as a "foreign terrorist organization" revoked, one week after the US lifted its decades-long sanctions on the country.

Trump signed an executive order to end all sanctions against Syria, paving the way for the country to “stabilise in peace” and support its growth. The White House, however, warned that it will be monitoring the new Syrian government’s actions,
