MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A pet zebra that went missing in Middle Tennessee has been found and rescued safely after multiple days on the loose, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office.

The escapee, coined 'Zebra Ed' on social media, was found in a pasture near the Buchanan Estates in Christiana, Tennessee, and was airlifted by helicopter to an animal trailer, RCSO said.

Ed the Zebra was captured safely after being located in a pasture near a subdivision in the Christiana community in central Tennessee, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

According to the Associated Press, the zebra is named Ed and first came to Christiana, Tennessee on May 30. His owner reported him missing the next day.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said crews rescued the zebra from a field in Christiana on Sunday morning. A net was dropped over the animal before it was airlifted out of the area.
