Macaques are incredibly versatile and captivating primates, thriving in habitats ranging from lush tropical forests to icy mountain peaks. Highly intelligent and deeply social, they live in large, hierarchical groups that reveal their complex and fascinating behaviour. There are 23 recognised species, including the snow-loving Japanese macaque, the inquisitive rhesus macaque, and the distinctive Barbary macaque. Each has its own unique charm, perfectly adapted to its environment and way of life.
